BUS 109: Business Mathematics

This class teaches concepts and skills relevant to professionals in business, accounting, and other applied science areas.

BUS 109 fulfills the mathematics requirements in many of WNC's Associate of Applied Science degrees as well as all one-year Certificates. It is not designed to transfer or fulfill requirements at other colleges or universities. It will not fulfill the core mathematics requirement for majors at UNR.

BUS 109 teaches mathematical processes for vendors and consumers. Specific topics include discounts, commissions, depreciation, overhead and interest rates.

As a successful student you will learn to:

Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole number, fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals
Finding part, base, rate, increase and decrease problems
Checking accounts, banking services, credit-card transactions and reconciliation
Wages, salaries, piecework and commission
Calculations of withholding for social security, Medicare, federal income tax and other taxes
The basics of simple and compound interest–finding principal, rate, and time
The basics of open-end credit and charge cards, installment loans, early payoffs, personal property loans, and real estate loans
